Some of our customers prefer wooden loft ladders.
Pros:
•
These can give a better performance if the ladder will be down for long periods of time, because they
feel more like a steep staircase.
•
They have deeper treads so can feel more secure and the handrail gives added security.
•
The loft opening is quite large, around 53 cm x 110 cm, although some of this width is taken up with
the arms and springs that you can see in the pictures.
•
The ladder sits on the lid so there is no space taken up in the loft.
As you can see the lid drops down using the supplied pole, then the ladder unfolds in a total of three sections.
The downsides are:
•
These ladders need a new or enlarged opening in the ceiling and this means an all day job to fit.
•
The ladder also comes down in a fixed position and need a larger area than the loft hatch to unfold.
•
They are heavier than the 2 or 3 section aluminium ladders despite the assisting springs.
•
If your present loft opening is wider than around 60cm it can’t be replaced with a wooden loft ladder as the gap will
not be covered by the new architrave (see below) - a better alternative is the telescopic ladder. In all cases it will
need a quote visit to check that it can be done in the location you want.
