If you don’t already have a drop down hatch that swings down with catch and hinges, you will need one. You could just about get away with standing on a chair and pushing the hatch up out of the way before pulling down the ladder, but the ladder sticks out over the hatch and makes this very difficult. We cut down the hatch so it’s a trap door with catch, THREE hinges for long term reliability, and a brush strip round the edge for draft -proofing. The ladder comes with a pole: you use this to operate the turn-catch to open the hatch. Replacement plastic hatch - £150
Instead of converting a plastic or metal hatch to wood, in some cases we are able to replace a
standard-sized hatch with a new plastic swing-down hinged hatch. There are less materials and
labour involved , so this is a cheaper option. The loft opening will still be the same size as before.
We will need to know the INSIDE measurements of the hatch wooden frame so that we can order
the correct replacement plastic hatch.
New or enlarged loft opening - 55 x 75cm opening

hatch. The loft opening
will still be the same size
as before or may be slightly longer - 55 x
75cm .
